| Reverse description | A Burgundian cross occupies the central field, its arms terminating in fire steels (eslites) characteristic of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Habsburgs, referencing the nominal sovereignty of Philip II of Spain over the Low Countries. The date 1578 is divided and placed at the top of the cross. A circular Latin legend encircles the design within a beaded border, reading PHS D G HISPANIA REX (Philippus Dei Gratia Hispaniae Rex), identifying the issuing authority as Philip, by the grace of God, King of Spain. |
