| Obverse description | Bust of Yazdgard I facing right, bearded and moustachioed, wearing a close-fitting royal headdress surmounted by a globe with small ribbons issuing from it and a crescent beneath; the headdress is adorned with ornamental points throughout, and the diadem consists of a single row of large pearls. Ribbons flow upward from the king's right shoulder, and the hair is rendered in tight curls. The king wears an earring and a single-strand bead necklace; beneath the truncation are six horizontal leaf devices enclosed by a beaded or pointed border. Pahlavi legend surrounds the effigy in the field. |
