Vologases I ruled during one of the most turbulent stretches of Parthian history, spending much of his reign managing the perennial problem of rival claimants — including his own brothers Vardanes II and Pacorus — while simultaneously fighting a prolonged proxy war with Rome over Armenia. The Armenian conflict drew in Corbulo, Nero's most capable general, and ultimately ended in the compromise of Rhandeia in 63 AD, where a Parthian prince would sit on the Armenian throne but receive his crown from Rome.
Sellwood 71.2 is among the more frequently encountered varieties of his reign, struck at Ecbatana.
