Varhran V (Bahram V) ruled during a period of sustained conflict with Rome and the Hephthalites, but these pieces have nothing to do with those campaigns. The Bukharan imitative series reflects the Sasanian monetary reach into Sogdia — local authorities reproducing official types in silver for regional use, gradually degenerating the prototype through successive copying. SNS Schaaf 435–438 covers a tight cluster of die-linked variants within that degeneration sequence, making placement within the group meaningful for establishing the copying chain.
