Obverse description Facing head of Helios, the sun god, rendered in three-quarter view turned slightly to the right, with radiate hair swept dramatically outward in flowing, wind-tossed locks rendered in high relief. The youthful, idealized face displays finely modelled features characteristic of Hellenistic Rhodian engraving, with prominent eyes, a straight nose, and slightly parted lips. The hair radiates in stylized undulating strands that fill the field to the coin's edge, conveying the divine luminosity of the deity. The type follows the canonical Rhodian obverse design established in the late 4th century BC and maintained with remarkable consistency through the plinthophoric series.
