Peisikrates served as eponymous magistrate at Rhodes during a period when the island was navigating its most consequential diplomatic stretch — the years immediately following Rome's defeat of Philip V at Cynoscephalae in 197 BC, when Rhodes briefly enjoyed outsized regional influence as a naval power courted by both Rome and the Seleucid kingdom. The magistrate-signed drachm series was Rhodes' standard civic coinage, with individual magistrates rotating through the responsibility of guaranteeing each issue's weight and silver content.
Ashton's die study places Peisikrates firmly within the plinthophoroi-era small silver, distinguished from earlier types by subtle fabric shifts in the flan preparation.
