背面描述 A fully-opened rose with a budding secondary rose to the right, the principal civic emblem of Rhodes, occupies the center of the reverse field. The Greek letters Ρ and Ο are placed on either side of the rose, serving as an abbreviated ethnic for Rhodes. The magistrate's name ΔΑΜΑΤΡΙΟΣ is inscribed above in Greek characters. A dolphin appears in the lower left field as a secondary symbol. The entire design is set within a shallow square incuse (plinthophoron), characteristic of the Rhodian drachm series of this period.

附加信息

Rhodes struck these small silver drachms in enormous volume during the mid-second century BC, fueling one of the ancient Mediterranean's most active commercial ports. The island's mint operated under a system of rotating magistrates — the name Damatrios identifies the eponymous official responsible for this issue, a practice that allows modern scholars to sequence Rhodian coinage with unusual precision. The Jenkins typology remains the foundational reference, built on die-linkage studies that revealed just how systematically the Rhodian mint managed its output.

Following Rome's punishment of Rhodes after the Third Macedonian War in 167 BC — stripping the island of its Lycian and Carian revenues — the mint's production patterns shifted noticeably, making chronological placement of magistrate series within this window a matter of ongoing specialist debate.
