Obverse description Bust of Artabanus I facing left, depicted with a short curly beard and wearing a distinctive Parthian royal diadem ornamented with pellets or studs, rendered in the characteristic eastern Parthian artistic style. The king is shown in a draped garment with jeweled torque visible at the neck, the folds of the cloak rendered in a stylized manner typical of the period. The portrait exhibits the broad, somewhat flat facial features associated with the eastern workshop style of Sellwood's Series 20. The field to the right is bounded by a dotted border. No legend appears on the obverse.
