The island's punishing treatment by Rome following its perceived neutrality in the Third Macedonian War — specifically the loss of Lycian and Carian revenues after 167 BC — severely curtailed Rhodian trade income, and the drachm series of this period reflects a mint operating under real fiscal pressure rather than imperial confidence.
