Obverse description Facing three-quarter right, the radiate head of Helios is rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail, his long wavy hair swept behind the ear and the characteristic radiating crown of sun-rays fanning prominently across the upper field. The youthful, idealized facial features display the refined Hellenistic die-cutting style characteristic of Rhodian civic coinage. The portrait is set against a plain, slightly convex field with no surrounding legend. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-struck production of the period.
