| 表面の説明 | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, depicted in archaic style with almond-shaped eye rendered frontally. The goddess wears a crested Attic helmet adorned with an olive leaf and floral palmette scroll decoration along the bowl. Finely engraved curls of hair emerge from beneath the helmet and fall along the neck. The facial features are rendered with characteristic Classical Athenian precision, and the ear is visible beneath the helmet cheekpiece. The field is plain and unlettered. |

Produced at the height of Athenian imperial power, these drachms circulated throughout the Delian League network and beyond — Athenian silver, backed by Laurion mine output, was the dominant trade currency of the eastern Mediterranean. The Peloponnesian War, which began in 431 BC, would have been in full throat during this coin's production, with Athens simultaneously funding naval operations, plague relief, and the ongoing construction program on the Acropolis.
Kroll's classification places this squarely within the transitional period of die style documented in his Type 10 sequence.
