Above the horses, Nike flies right and extends a wreath to crown the nearest horse, a motif emblematic of Sicilian victory coinage. In the exergue, a leaf with fruit serves as a decorative ground element. The composition reflects the high-quality engraving tradition of early classical Sicily. |
