Juan II inherited Majorca as part of Aragon's Mediterranean holdings following the extinction of the Majorcan royal line in 1349, and by his reign the island's billon coinage had become a largely administrative fixture of a kingdom whose financial energies were directed elsewhere — toward Catalonia's brutal civil war of 1462–1472, which consumed nearly the entirety of his reign. The doblers of this period circulated heavily in local Mallorcan markets, and surviving examples in anything above Fine are genuinely uncommon.
