Juan II inherited Majorca as part of Aragon's Crown territories following a decades-long struggle that had seen the island's autonomous kingdom formally absorbed in 1343. His reign over the island coincided with the catastrophic Catalan Civil War of 1462–1472, during which the Crown of Aragon's resources were severely strained and minor billon coinage like the dobler suffered chronic production irregularities. Majorca's mint at Palma operated intermittently through this period, making issues attributable to specific years within the span essentially impossible without die study.
