A surrounding peripheral legend in Gothic lettering reads ALFONSUS DEI GRACI, referencing King Alfonso V ruling by the grace of God. The flan is irregular and the die alignment is characteristic of hand-hammered medieval coinage. Overall style and execution are consistent with mid-fifteenth century Majorcan mint production.
