Reverse description Central field features a quartered coat of arms divided by a plain cross, with the arms of Castile (a turreted castle) occupying the first and fourth quarters and the arms of Leon (a rampant lion) in the second and third quarters, all rendered in high relief consistent with hammered gold coinage of the period. The quarters are clearly delineated, with the castle depicted as a three-towered fortress and the lion shown passant-rampant. A beaded inner border frames the shield, and the circumferential Latin legend + ET LEGIONIS ET runs along the outer margin, separated from the central device by the beaded circle.
