Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious inscription arranged in horizontal lines within a plain inner border. The inscription, rendered in Kufic script, contains the Shahada and references to the Abbasid caliph al-Qahir Billah. A circular marginal legend in Kufic script runs along the outer border, separated from the central panel by a single line. The overall style is characteristic of the Avenger type coinage produced during the caliphate of al-Qahir (320-322 AH), with angular, densely packed Kufic letterforms typical of early 10th-century Abbasid silver coinage.
