| Reverse description | A large, finely detailed barley ear (the civic emblem of Metapontion) depicted upright and centrally, with a leaf curving to the right at the base of the stalk. Above the leaf to the upper right, a small cornucopiae is visible as a secondary symbol. The ethnic legend META is inscribed vertically along the left field in Greek characters, identifying the issuing city of Metapontion in Lucania. The design is characteristic of the late Lucanian coinage of this mint, rendered with bold, naturalistic relief on an irregular hammered flan. |
