Dinero - Juan II

Juan II ruled Majorca not as an independent sovereign but through his kingship of Aragon, to which the island had been formally reincorporated in 1343 after the extinction of the Majorcan royal line. These billon dineros were struck during a reign consumed by the Catalan Civil War, a brutal conflict that ran from 1462 to 1472 and severely disrupted minting operations across the Crown of Aragon's territories. Majorca itself remained broadly loyalist during that struggle, which likely kept local production intermittent rather than halted entirely.

At under 0.6 grams, these pieces circulated hard and survive in fine condition only rarely. Cru#963 is frequently encountered with flat areas attributable to the worn dies typical of this peripheral mint rather than any post-strike damage.
