| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Shapur III in high relief, wearing an elaborate Sasanian crown surmounted by a large korymbos (hair-bundle) encased in a globe, with a crescent below. The king is adorned with a beaded necklace and earrings, his hair rendered in detailed curls falling behind the neck. A ribbon or diadem flies behind the head. A Pahlavi inscription appears in the right field and along the outer border of the coin. |

| Reverse description | A stepped Zoroastrian fire altar at centre, with flames rising from the altar top surmounted by a small bust or globe. Two attendants stand facing the altar, one on each side, each depicted in Sasanian royal or priestly dress with a small orb or globe to the outer side. Pahlavi inscriptions appear in the left and right fields flanking the altar. The scene is rendered in the characteristic Sasanian hammered style with bold, slightly irregular relief. |
