| Reverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription in four or five horizontal lines within a plain inner circle, enclosed by a beaded inner border. The marginal legend, also in Kufic script, encircles the central device between the inner beaded border and an outer pearled or cable border. The reverse inscriptions include the mint name, regnal references to the Samanid amir Nasr II b. Ahmad, and acknowledgment of Abbasid suzerainty, all rendered in the refined angular Kufic calligraphy characteristic of eastern Islamic gold coinage of this period. |
