Obverse description Central field bears a multi-line Arabic religious inscription arranged in three or four horizontal lines, proclaiming the Islamic declaration of faith (Shahada) and Quranic formulae. The central text area is enclosed within an inner circle, surrounded by a circular marginal legend in Arabic script running along the periphery of the coin. The outer margin contains the Quranic verse or mint and date formula, separated from the central field by a plain linear border. The overall design is characteristic of classical Abbasid gold coinage, with no figural imagery, relying entirely on calligraphic ornamentation. The striking is typical of hammered Islamic dinars, resulting in a slightly irregular, broad flan.
