Al-Muqtadir came to power at thirteen years old, and his twenty-four-year reign was among the most turbulent of the Abbasid caliphate — he was deposed twice, the first time within a single day before being reinstated, and ultimately killed in battle against his own troops in 932. The Baghdad mint continued striking dinars throughout this instability, though the caliphate's actual fiscal control over its provinces was fragmenting badly, with autonomous governors increasingly managing their own revenues.
Attributing specific mint years within this reign requires careful reading of the mint and date fields in the Arabic legends, as several provincial mints struck concurrently under his name.
