Obverse description Facing three-quarter bust of Helios, the sun god, turned slightly to the right, rendered in high relief with flowing, wind-swept curls radiating outward around the head in place of a solar crown. The facial features are finely modeled in the Rhodian Hellenistic style, with large almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and full lips. The hair fans dramatically into the field on all sides, conveying the luminous energy of the deity. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse. The overall composition fills the flan and displays the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of Rhodian silver coinage of the early second century BC.
