| Descrizione del dritto | Head of Athena facing left, helmeted in the Phrygian style, the bowl of the helmet adorned with a centauress in relief and the neck guard decorated with a scroll motif. The goddess is rendered with fine archaic-to-classical transitional artistry, with detailed facial features and flowing hair visible beneath the helmet. Behind the neck guard appears the monogram of the engraver ΚΛΕΥ (Kleudoros), serving as a die-sinker's signature. The overall style is characteristic of the accomplished South Italian Greek coinage of the late fourth century BC. |

The musculature of the beast is rendered with confident engraving consistent with the high-quality dies associated with the engraver Kleudoros. In the lower field, below the lion's body, appears the letter Φ (phi). Along the exergual line, the ethnic legend ΥΕΛΗΤΩΝ (of the Velians) is inscribed in archaic Greek characters, identifying the issuing city of Velia (Hyele/Elea) in Lucania. |
