背面描述 Zeus Nikephoros standing left, his weight on his right leg, extending his right hand to present a winged Nike and holding a long scepter in his left hand. The figure stands on an exergual line, below which appears a monogram. The royal titulature is arranged in two vertical columns flanking the central deity, reading from left to right in Greek characters. The composition follows the standard Hellenistic royal bronze type associated with the Damascus mint of Antiochos XII.

附加信息

Antiochos XII Dionysos was the last Seleucid king to rule from Damascus, and this coin was struck during a reign defined almost entirely by war. He fought repeated campaigns against the Nabataean kingdom to the south, and it was on one of those campaigns — at the Battle of Moab, around 84 BC — that he was killed in action, leaving the Seleucid hold on Coele-Syria effectively finished. Damascus fell shortly after to the Nabataean king Aretas III, ending direct Seleucid control of the city for good.
