Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a schematically rendered quadruped — interpreted as the lion of Saint Wenceslaus — is depicted in profile facing left, executed in the crude Romanesque style typical of early Bohemian deniers. The animal is shown with a large stylised head and prominent legs. Surrounding the inner circle is the Latin legend +SCSWECESUS (Sanctus Wenceslaus — Saint Wenceslaus), the patron saint of Bohemia, with letters distributed around the border in the characteristic irregular spacing of 11th-century hammered coinage. The flat, worn fields and irregular flan shape are consistent with hand-struck billon issues of this period.
