Obverse description Stylized frontal bust of a ruler depicted in a highly schematic Romanesque manner, wearing a crown with three points or finials rendered in horizontal lines. Below the bust, a decorative arch or collar motif is visible, flanked by small ornamental elements. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped, typical of hammered medieval deniers from Bohemia and Moravia.

Additional information

Svatopluk of Olomouc ruled as duke from 1095 until his assassination in 1107, making this denier one of the shorter-lived issues of the Přemyslid appanage system. The Duchy of Olomouc functioned as a semi-autonomous Moravian principality under the Bohemian crown, issuing its own coinage independently of Prague. Cach 429 is among the scarcer of the Olomouc ducal types; Svatopluk was killed at the siege of Znojmo by a political rival, ending both his reign and this issue abruptly.
