Reverse description Central device consists of a bold plain cross with extended arms reaching nearly to the inner circle, occupying the full central field and dividing it into four quadrants. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the circumferential legend NVIENTVS CΛSTR is distributed, identifying the mint place as the castle of Nogent. The legend is introduced by a cross pommée and executed in the same rustic Latin capitals as the obverse, with lambda-form letter A characteristic of early medieval West Frankish epigraphy. The flan is irregular with evidence of edge damage, typical of hammered billon issues of this period. The reverse type follows the standard Carolingian temple-or-monogram reverse schema adapted here to a simple cross design.
