| Reverse description | Central field displays a plain, bold Greek cross with equal arms, set within a beaded inner circle, conforming to standard Carolingian denier reverse typology. The arms of the cross extend to or near the inner circle, dividing the inner field into four quarters. The surrounding circular legend reads LINCN CVTS, denoting the city of Langres as the mint of issue, preceded by a cross pattée. The lettering is executed in the irregular, hand-engraved style characteristic of provincial West Frankish hammered coinage of the early 10th century. |
