Additional information

Philippe I inherited a royal demesne so fragmented that his effective monetary authority barely extended beyond a handful of episcopal towns. Sens was among the few mints where the crown exercised direct enough control to strike in its own name — hence the REX type appearing there while feudal lords ran competing issues virtually everywhere else in France.

The Dy royales 73 classification covers the full reign span, but die studies suggest the Sens output was heaviest in the earlier decades before Philippe's excommunication in 1094 complicated administrative functions across royal territories.
