Beschrijving voorzijde Central cross pattee dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a letter or pellet device arranged in the typical Carolingian denier fashion. The legend PHILIPPVS REX runs in a circular band around the periphery in crude Latin capitals, characteristic of the rough hammered style of the late 11th to early 12th century Capetian coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly broad, with weak striking in areas due to the hand-hammering technique. The overall design follows the Carolingian cross-type tradition inherited by the early Capetian kings.
Schrift voorzijde Latin

Beschrijving keerzijde Central monogram or temple-like device occupying the inner field, enclosed within a partial inner circle, a design element characteristic of the Parisian denier of Philippe I. The peripheral legend PARISIVS CIVITAS — identifying Paris as the city of issue — is rendered in crude Latin capitals around the border of the irregularly shaped flan. The reverse presents the typical civic identification formula used on royal Capetian deniers struck at the Paris mint during this period. Striking is uneven, with portions of the legend weak or partially off-flan due to the hammered production method.
