The cross arms are bold and deeply struck within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend CASTELLVM STAMPIS references the castle of Etampes, serving as the mint identification. The lettering is rendered in crude Romanesque Latin capitals, consistent with the hammered coinage of the Capetian royal mint at Etampes in the late 11th to early 12th century. |
