Obverse description Central field bearing the royal monogram of King Odo, formed by an intricate interlaced cipher composed of the letters of his name in the Carolingian tradition, executed in raised relief typical of late 9th-century Frankish hammered coinage. The monogram is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by an outer legend band. The inscription, reading +ODO GRATIA D-I REX, invokes the king's divine mandate, separated by cross pommée stops. The overall fabric is irregular, with the design showing characteristic die-cutting of the Sens workshop.
