Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the royal monogram of King Odo is rendered as a cross-shaped device formed by the letters ODO RE arranged in cruciform pattern in the central field. A Latin legend reading ODO REX GRATIA DEI REX encircles the inner beaded border, invoking the king's authority by divine grace. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, typical of ninth-century Carolingian hammered coinage. The lettering is bold and angular in the Carolingian majuscule style, and the field shows the characteristic texture of a hand-struck silver denier.
