| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold plain cross with wide, squared arms occupies the centre of the field, contained within a beaded inner circle. The four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross are left open, in keeping with the standard Carolingian reverse type. The surrounding outer legend, separated from the central device by the beaded border, identifies the mint city of Limoges using the Latin place name in the Carolingian manner. The execution is characteristic of the Limoges workshop, with somewhat irregular lettering and a slightly flan that is uneven at the edges, consistent with hammered coinage of the period. |
