The cross divides the inner field into four quarters and is rendered in bold relief. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded circle, identifying the mint as the Palace of Compiegne. The flan is irregular, consistent with hammered Carolingian silver coinage. The lettering is in the angular Carolingian uncial style typical of late ninth-century West Frankish royal issues. |
