Obverse description Central field features a stylised cross pattée with trefoil or wedge-shaped ornaments in each angle, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads LODOVICVS REX in Latin characters, distributed around the periphery, though the irregular flan and weak strike render some letters partially legible. The overall design is typical of the crude Capetian hammered coinage of the early 12th century, with a flat, uneven relief characteristic of the period.
