| Obverse description | Central field features a stylised monogram of Herbert, Count of Le Mans, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is rendered in the Carolingian tradition, with interlaced letterforms typical of early medieval French feudal coinage. The surrounding annular legend reads LVDOVICVS VIVIT in retrograde or irregular Latin majuscules, separated by pellets, and is bounded by an outer beaded border.
