Obverse description Central field features a stylized monogram or architectural motif enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The design, characteristic of early Capetian coinage, displays a tall vertical element flanked by subsidiary devices in a crude but distinctive hammered style. The surrounding legend LVDOVICVS REX, identifying King Louis VI, runs between the inner beaded circle and an outer border composed of alternating pellets and wedge-shaped ornaments. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, typical of hand-struck medieval billon deniers.
