| Obverse description | Helmeted bust of the margrave facing left, holding a spear in the right hand. The effigy is rendered in a crude, stylised manner typical of 11th-century German feudal coinage. A Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading ✠ VDO MARCHIO, identifying the issuer as Udo (Lothaire-Odon II), Margrave of Stade. The flan is irregular and the relief is uneven, consistent with hand-struck hammered technique. |
