Lothair II inherited the West Frankish throne as a child in 954 under the effective regency of Hugh the Great, and his long reign saw the Carolingian dynasty's grip on real power erode almost completely in favor of the Robertian magnates. The Bourges mint was among the royal mints that continued striking in his name throughout this period, though actual royal authority over the city fluctuated considerably.
