| Obverse description | A plain cross with equal arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The imperial legend surrounds the design in the outer field, reading clockwise in capital Latin letters. The type follows the standard Carolingian denier format established under Louis the Pious, with the cross serving as the primary decorative and religious motif. The flan is irregular and slightly polygonal in outline, as typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. |
