背面描述 A panther or feline creature passant to the left is depicted in a robust, stylized manner, with its head turned forward, tail curled upward over its back, and four legs clearly delineated. A patriarchal or plain cross is placed in the field ahead of the animal. The reverse field is plain and unlettered, with a beaded border encircling the design, typical of late 13th-century Hungarian bracteate-influenced deniers struck under Ladislaus IV.

附加信息

Ladislaus IV — known as Ladislaus the Cuman — spent much of his reign in open conflict with the Hungarian nobility and the papacy, largely because of his preference for the Cuman steppe culture of his maternal relatives over the expectations of a Christian king. Pope Nicholas IV eventually placed Hungary under interdict in 1288. Coinage continued regardless, but royal authority over the mints was erratic at best during these years, which accounts for the considerable variation in fabric and striking quality across surviving deniers of this type.
