Hermann of Saxony's brief tenure as anti-duke — installed by Gregory VII's reformist allies against Henry IV — makes coins attributed to his rule among the most politically charged issues of the Investiture Controversy. He was never able to consolidate control of the duchy, and his coinage reflects that instability: attributions remain contested, with Dannenberg and Kluge diverging on precise assignment of types within this period.
