Obverse description Facing bust of Archbishop Frederick I depicted in frontal view within a beaded circle, the figure holding a crosier in the left hand and raising the right hand in a gesture of benediction. The effigy is rendered in the Romanesque style typical of early twelfth-century Rhenish coinage. A retrograde Latin legend encircles the bust, reading FRITHERICVS ARCHIEP, identifying the issuing prelate.
