Reverse description A plain Latin cross with expanded terminals occupies the central field, contained within a beaded inner circle. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the beaded border, dividing the inner field into four quarters. A circular Latin legend reading the mint name of Châteaudun surrounds the beaded circle, introduced by a cross pattée, with lettering in the Carolingian epigraphic style typical of late 9th- to early 10th-century West Frankish issues.
