| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays a Carolingian monogram composed of interlaced letters forming the name KAROLUS, enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The monogram is rendered in the characteristic early medieval style, with bold strokes typical of Carolingian hammered silver coinage. A Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading CRATIA D-I REX, proclaiming Charles as king by the grace of God, introduced by a cross pattee. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-struck production of the late ninth and early tenth centuries. |
