| Reverse description | Central design consists of a bold plain cross with expanded arms set within a raised beaded circle, dividing the inner field into four equal quarters that remain plain. The cross is rendered in high relief, characteristic of the hammered Carolingian denier tradition. The surrounding legend, inscribed between the inner beaded circle and the outer edge of the irregularly shaped flan, identifies the issuing city. The lettering is angular and uneven in execution, consistent with hand-engraved dies of the period. The reverse composition follows the standard Carolingian monetary type established under the Edict of Pitres. |
