| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by the Carolingian royal monogram of Charlemagne (KAROLVS), composed of interlaced letters arranged around a central lozenge-shaped pellet, with the arms of the monogram radiating outward in a cruciform pattern. The design is executed in high relief with bold, angular strokes characteristic of early Carolingian hammered coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-struck silver deniers of the period. No surrounding legend is present on this side, the monogram itself serving as the sole device. |
